I didn’t envision it would take this long to get my first blog post up.

Amidst completing my Yoga Teacher Training in the beautiful Balian Beach, on the west coast of Bali, I had a brilliant idea. When I arrived back in Sydney, I would use my newfound yoga skills to serve my community. As a globalist, that meant I gave myself the small task of solving the world’s problems through group yoga classes.

How hard could it be? With a unique business name and mission in mind, I started plotting a comprehsive business plan during our morning meditation (a yoga no-no!). All that was left to do was put my below average technical skills together to create a half-decent website, kick-things off with a tweet and start teaching!

Or so I thought.

Turns out starting a business is tough. And in many ways, not zen.

It wasn’t all vision boards and light-bulb moments. It was insurance policies, late-night skype disagreements with designers, choosing the right kind of business model, developing a transparent fee structure, working within the limitations of hosting servers and deciding on which area of suffering in the world to direct our social outcomes.

Before I knew it, I’d invested every bit of my savings into something that no one could see but me.

Nonetheless, somewhere between working full-time, finishing my undergraduate degree part-time and teaching two classes a week, Omology was officially registered as a social enterprise and open for practice.

So far, it may just be me teaching yoga to my immediate community. However, the vision that I have for Omology is endless, the possibilities limitless. I envision a tribe of conscious activists, all connecting, collaborating and spreading their compassion around like confetti (the eco-friendly kind).

I see new teachers using Omology as a stepping-stone when they get out of teacher training and I see teachers with 30 years experience using Omology to reconnect with the service of yoga. I see CEOs of large NGOs and b-corporations working with Omologists as part of their staff wellbeing strategies. I see artists who can never clear their mind joining an Omology class, and leaving behind works of magic on our community page. I see experts, in nutrition, science, economics or any field, sharing their knowledge and contributing to conversations that will ultimately shift our consciousness.

Most imporantly, I see real social and global outcomes being reached through yoga. Omology is a pathway to recognising the divine nature of each other and ourselves. If we work towards seeing our true state of being, nothing but complete compassion will be left to share between one another. I’m so blessed that yoga has provided me with a very practical toolkit to embody my purpose. Omology is about so much more than a phsycial practice. This is a movement, a collective intelligence, of change-makers coming together to share their bliss, in whichever way they choose.

With a background in the fundraising and not-for-profit sector, I’ve come to learn a lot about the act of giving. It turns out people WANT to give and I’m so excited to launch a new platform for them to do so.

Early stages of brand building- logo development

No empire is built in a day, and I have a long way to go in my own personal practice. For now, I'll use the words of Theodore Roosevelt to inspire me and keep the steam rising - “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”.
